Around Town

Well I can't believe it has been over two weeks since I did a post, time sure has a way of going by. I hope all my readers had a good Holiday. Billy and I had a nice one, we have met some really nice people here and we spent it with them.

Christmas: Celebrating Christmas here was different, they celebrate it on Christmas Eve. They open their front doors, build a small fire in front of their houses and eat outside. Lot's of food, drinking, loud music, and of course the fireworks! For our Christmas Eve we went to our friend Kerry's house, everyone brought something, we had 3 different soups, Billy made his awesome New England Clam Chowder. On Christmas day when we drove into town it was business like usual, lot's of stores were open. I think it was the first time in our married life that we went to a restaurant for Christmas dinner, just easier and cheaper, turkeys here are expensive. After dinner we went to a friends open house, and ate some more!!!! I am glad the holidays are over. For New years eve, there was a party here, pot luck dinner, the food was great, even better we didn't have to drive home. We came home early and watched the New Year ring in from NY, which in our case was at 11:00 our time, so I went to bed early, I am an old fart! LOL

The following pictures were taken around town. This guy is wating for his owner, as you can see the lake level is still high.

We are new at building fires, but I think we got the hang of it now. I love them, so pretty!

Thought this was a beautiful flower pot

You can walk into town either by going down the streets, or taking the malacon, I love walking the malacon, so much to see, it is so pretty. You can't stay in a bad mood when you have all this beauty around you.

Children love to ride their bikes on the malacon, sometimes you will see them roller skating on it too.

Ducks enjoying the sunlight

Well that's all for this post I will write agian soon.

Our Trip to the beach

Our friends Kathy and Rick invitied us to spend a few days with them at their house in Barra Navidad. Being the beach lovers that we are, they didn't have to ask us twice ! We packed our suitcase and off we went. First we had to drop off our kitty to aunt Dorothy's, where he got to spend a few days with her two cats, he had a great time there, and we were lucky Dorothty gave him back to us. It was a 4 hour drive to get to Barra, really nice roads if you are on the toll roads. We spent our time there going to the beach, eating out, exploring the gift shops, and playing cards and Yatzee at night. The weather there was hot and humid, just like Florida! I have to say that when we got back to Ajijic, we were cold! We had a great time with our friends, and look forward to them coming back here in Febuary.

Could this be Billy and me in our next life together????

This was taken at a small beach town called Melaque

Interesting rocks in the water

This boat is a water taxi, you can get to the hotel Grand Bay on them, or if you live on the water, like Rick and Kathy do, you can take one home.

Thought this would make a nice picture.

Billy really loved it a Barra and Melaque, I was lucky to get him home, I liked it but Ajijic has more things going on. I wouldn't mind spending maybe a month there, and exploring more beach towns. Hope you all enjoyed this post, till the next time!

Thanksgiving Part 2 & other things!

Wow, this post was a beast to finish, for some reason the internet kept on shutting down, just long enough for me to keep on losing my pictures, so that is why this post is in 2 parts. I am really proud of myself for seeing it through, as it was very fustrating, to say the least! So I hope you all enjoy the pictures. Now for all of you who are wondering where Billy's post is, I guess it is still in his head, as he has not sat down to write one ! He said he will, so we are all waiting!!!

This picture was snapped at our friend Sherry's house from her roof top.

This one is her view of the mountians

This bunny was on my back patio, he hung around long enough for me to run and get my camera

The weight issue: Well I found another scale and I got on it, the results are in, 2 out of 3 scales say that I need to lose some weight :( !! Now I know that losing weight and the holidays do not go hand in hand so I will wait till the first of the year before I start trying, I would like to lose 10lbs. before I go back to the states. We are planning a trip in March so that gives me plenty of time to lose it, or at least I hope it does. I plan on going back to Zumba, and I should start walking again. I will keep you all posted on how it is going.
Beach: We have been invitied to the beach! so off we go, I will do a post on it when I get back, and hope the computer stays online! Well thats it for this weeks post, see you all next week!

Thanksgiving Day

Hope all my readers had a great Thanksgiving Day! Billy and I were invited to a friend of a friends house. There were 18 of us, and we had a great time. Everyone brought a dish, so there was plenty to eat. Billy made a big dish of summer squash, but there was an accident in the oven, the maid, put a glass dish on the bottom of the oven, and the glass broke, shattered all over, so we had to throw out the squash. Lucky for us we had a small dish of it at home so the next day we did get to have some, it was really good. It was so nice to be invited out, when you are new it is always great to meet people, we had a very interesting mix of people. The man who's house we had dinner at is named Walter, we call his house the tile house, it is covered in tile, everyroom, inside and out!!!! His dad built the house and he and his dad did the tile work. It must have been one huge work in progress! I wonder if it drove his mom crazy, next time I see Walter I will have to ask.

This and That

Today's post is just about this and that. Sometimes I know exactly what I want to say, but today is not one of them. I might be feeling a little down, ok, lets be honest I am feeling a little down. Why you ask, good question, If I knew I would change how I feel. It could be that I am feeling a little homesick, I guess, with the holidays coming up it is understandable that I would feel this way. I am starting to find out that even though people move here, their lives are still not happy or the way they thought their lives would go. I guess that saying is true "no matter where you go there you are" so if you are not happy with your life in general you won't be happy just because you live somewhere else. I wonder sometimes why people make the choices that they do, some people seem to live in a world of drama, others just keep on making bad decisions. I read a quote just recently that said "change your story, change your life" words for some people to take to heart. Now I don't want you all to think that I am not happy here, I am very happy here, just missing things from my old life. I still miss my horses, but then, they are not my horses anymore, I do get to ride once a week, but I miss not training them, or hearing them whinney at me in the morning, and the wonderful sound of the trains I used to hear has been replaced by the sound of the church bells ringing, which are very nice, too. I also didn't realize how much I missed our cats until we had a kitten arrive in our lifes. He is getting spoiled! Ok, are you thinking give us some good stuff? Get off the pity party train! Well the weather here is just so great, you can plan a party and not worry about it rainning, it won't rain now until May. We get to watch all the tv shows 1 hour earlier! and I haven't been watching tv like I used to in the states, and yes we get tv here! and yes it is in English. Tonight we are going to the plaza to listen to the bands play. All week there is a fiesta going on, they tell me that they will be partying till the wee hours! I love hearing all the music, they love to have big, loud bands!!! The Mexican people love to party!

House warming pictures:

Our friend Kerry playing Bocce ball "What do you mean another point for the men"!

Billy, Yes we rock, the men rock!

Rick: One more point and we win!

Sherry asks Rick: "Are you guy's playing fair'?

Stay tuned for the next post as we will have a "guest blogger". My husband Billy has agreed to share his insights, on the move...etc. with you. I can't be held responsible for anything he says. LOL

Where does the time go ?

Where does the time go?

I wish I knew the answer to that one. We have been here for 6 months now, and the time has gone by so fast for us. I had a friend from Florida tell me that for her it seems like I have been gone forever. I thought that was nice that she misses me, but for me the time is flying by. I guess it is because here everything is new to us. Life is going good, the weather is great. It has been cold at night so now the pool water is to cold to go in. The days are nice and sunny, great riding weather. I have been going riding now once a week, so I am a happy camper, ( I wonder where that saying comes from ) Billy's Spanish is coming along really well, he talks to everyone, and listens! We do plan on taking some lessons, I have a friend who knows a teacher so we will be having a group lesson as soon as the details can be worked out. We had our first party here, and everyone had a great time, so we will be having more of them in the future.
Friends:
Our friends from Florida, who are here checking it out, like it so much that they have decided to take the plunge and move here, they go back the end of December to pack their house up, I don't envy that part, but like I told them one step at a time.
There is a hotel on the front part of the property here and in season it fills up with snowbirds, we met one couple from Canada, Kathy and Rick very nice people, this is their 4th year of coming to Mexico to escape the cold, they will be leaving on Friday to go to the beach and will be back in Febuary, we will miss them. Last night we all got together for a pot luck supper and we met another couple who just arrived, this is their 3rd time back here. It is going to be so much fun making new friends here!
Weight: I was over my friend Sherry's house last week and I noticed she had a bathroom scale, so I decided to weigh myself, well it gave me a reading that I really liked. I asked her if it was right and she said it was so I was very happy, thinking that I had shed some pounds. Fast forward to yesterday, my friend Jeanne had a scale, weighed myself on it ( now you think I would have been smart to just be happy with my first weigh in and leave it alone, ohhh no, not to be ) this scale has me 10lbs heavier!!! So now what do I do, should I try and find another scale, or should I just not care? I know what Billy would say, " are you happy, don't worry about it"
I will let you all know what happens, really if I do weigh what Jeanne's scale says I need to lose some pounds. Don't want to lose the girlish figure LOL!
Missing things:
Last night I was talking to hubby about what we miss in Florida, turns out I miss lot's of stuff! I try not to dwell on it. I do love it here, but you just can't turn the switch off, we spent 20 years in Florida, most of them good times! but our place was getting the better of us so we decided to move on. Lucky for us we have great tenants in our house, young blood, for all the chores that need to be done. LOL Well I need to wrap this up and go get myself ready to ride. Talk to you next week.

This critter was found in our laundry room, we managed to get him outside.

This butterfly landed on my hand and stayed there for about 5 minutes, never had that happen before. This is one of the colts at the ranch, he is 10 months old
